The Institute for Natural Resources (INR) maintains Oregon's most comprehensive database on rare species.

At INR, we focus on three key questions when assessing rare species: what is it (questions of taxonomy), where is it (where it occurs in Oregon), and how is it doing (what is its conservation status). These questions guide our work in monitoring Oregon’s unique array of species, and help support conservation efforts and land management decisions.

What We're Fundraising For:
Help the Institute for Natural Resources develop a public-facing rare species field guide!
Any additional funds not spent on this fundraising initiative will provide general support for the Institute for Natural Resources.

This field guide will:

• Make our existing rare species lists easily accessible online from a computer or mobile device
• Be available for use by members of the public, along with our state and federal partners
• Collect the photos, status, distribution, and descriptions for all rare species (animals, plants, and fungi) in a centralized location
• Add in links to our partners’ species-specific documentation and information
• Feature the most up-to-date information on rare species
• Cover the entire state of Oregon

Your donation can help protect Oregon’s rarest species and ecosystems.

State and federal agency partners use INR's data to make informed decisions about land management and species conservation. Our data help partners determine which species need additional conservation focus, and where their efforts are likely to be most effective. Your support of our field guide will help protect Oregon's rare species and ecosystems by ensuring that land management decisions are made using the most accurate and current information available.
