Empowering the Next Generation of PIAA Leaders
The Pacific Islander and Asian American (PIAA) Studies initiative at Portland State University uses an interdisciplinary framework to examine the social, cultural, and historical experiences of our communities. Our courses integrate rigorous theory with lived experience, centering the voices and knowledge produced from within Pacific Islander and Asian American traditions.
As we look toward the future—including our plans to offer a minor in PIAA Studies—our priority remains the well-being of the students who bring this initiative to life.
Removing Barriers for Students to Complete PIAA courses
Across campus, the need for student emergency funds has never been greater. The latest report on the long-term impact of the pandemic revealed that more than 50% of PSU students experienced food and housing insecurity in the last year.
For PIAA students navigating the rising cost of living, these funds provide flexible support to ensure a financial setback does not mean the end of their academic goals. Whether it’s covering childcare, groceries, or a sudden medical bill, these funds keep our students on the path to graduation.
