About

The Pan African Commons (PAC) is a dynamic community space that honors and uplifts the diverse identities of African, Black American, Caribbean, and Afro-descendant cultures across Central and South America and the world. As a hub for cultural celebration, advocacy, and identity development, PAC provides a space for students to reclaim, preserve, and celebrate their heritage while building solidarity among Black and Afro-Indigenous communities.

Our Vision & Impact

The Pan African Commons is more than just a space—it is a living testament to the resilience, brilliance, and cultural richness of Afro-descendant peoples.

🌍 A Space Rooted in Ancestry & Identity
PAC is designed to honor the past while shaping the future, offering a welcoming environment where students can explore their cultural heritage and foster a deep sense of belonging. Our internationally inspired décor, lounge areas, and community-centered atmosphere reflect the vast and interconnected histories of the African diaspora.

🎭 High-Quality, Transformative Programming
Through engaging and culturally responsive programming, we celebrate, educate, and empower our community. Events such as Black History Month celebrations, Ramadan gatherings, leadership panels, and guest speaker series create opportunities for learning, connection, and advocacy.

🎓 Student Leadership & Development
PAC is committed to student empowerment, equipping our community with the tools needed to lead and succeed. Our leadership development program offers students hands-on training in:

  • Event Planning & Community Organizing
  • Cultural Competency & Advocacy
  • Public Speaking & Facilitation
  • Conflict Resolution & Communication
  • Professional Development & Career Readiness
  • Digital Marketing, Merchandising & Brand Creation

Through these experiences, PAC cultivates leaders, change-makers, and scholars who are prepared to elevate their communities and thrive beyond PSU.

Resources & Support

PAC serves as a resource hub, ensuring students have access to tools for academic, personal, and professional growth. Our center provides:

  • A Computer Lab & Study Spaces
  • A Library of Afro-centric Literature & Media
  • A Shared Kitchen & Family-Friendly Lounge
